GUITAR LESSONS

Absolutely! There is no "cookie cutter" approach. All lesson plans are tailored to each individual student's goals and musical tastes. A lot of the first lesson is spent discussing your playing history (if any) and what you'd like to achieve on the guitar. Of course if you're starting out and just want to get playing and learning some songs that's great!

Yes. You will need your own instrument to bring to the lessons and to practice on at home. If you don't own a guitar or bass I can provide you with advice on brands, models, prices etc and help you source an instrument.

No. An amplifier and cable is supplied for electric guitar and bass students. The only time you'd need to bring your own amp is if you'd requested help operating it or if we were working on sounds for a performance.

No. The idea that you need to play acoustic before electric is just not true. The decision of what type of guitar to start on should be driven by your interests, musical tastes, goals and budget. Of course at the end of the day, the instrument you purchase should inspire you to play.

Sure. I have several students who learn both electric and acoustic guitar or guitar and bass. Generally you'd spend several lessons on one (particularly if you were starting out on that instrument) while you work on technique or a song before doing some lessons on the other instrument. If you're more experienced on both instruments you could swap between them more regularly (e.g. one week on bass, the next on guitar).

Not necessarily. Every student learns how to read basic chord charts and tablature (TAB), which only takes a few minutes. Reading standard notation, however, is something only some students will want to learn - usually for a specific reason like playing in the school band or furthering music studies etc. You can be a great player without being able to read music but it's a great skill to have if you're interested and it can be added to the lesson plan at any stage.

The lessons are held in Belrose and draw students from Terrey Hills, St. Ives, Davidson, Frenchs Forest, Beacon Hill, Narrabeen, Warriewood, Mona Vale, Newport, Bilgola Plateau, Palm Beach - even from as far as Bondi and the Blue Mountains. Lessons are also available via Zoom.

Private lessons are $100 per hour and $50 per half-hour.
